If you like coving, get coving; our opinions are meaningless. :)

I like coving, but like Essex I also like patterned artex ceilings.
God no - not patterned, just stippled!

When done properly with the comb so it radiates from the lights in the centre I think that it looks really good as well.
:D:D:D - good job I'm keeping it in my library!

I'm having coving put up tomorrow. I wasn't too bothered about anything fancy but I do think it makes the room look smart, especially when painted white against a colour rather than just another shade of pale. My ceilings are 2400mm.

Eta: to illustrate the point, although I concede the coving is a little dramatic for my taste:

I wonder whether each of us are having different visions of the coving. I was thinking of the simple C profile rather than anything elaborate. Another thing in the mix is that it's easier to retro-fit than it is to remove it especially as the plasterers don't finish right to the edge if they know coving will cover the joint between ceiling and walls.

Yes, this is exactly the type of coving that has been in my previous houses…. I guess I’ll pick one room of the least importance (guest bedroom) and see how it looks!!

True, but whilst I did own my flat that I sold in July, this is the first property I’ve ever been able to see as a “home”, and want to make it as pristine as possible - it doesn’t help that I’m terrible at picking paint colours etc, what looked like a nice subtle grey in the shop made the bedroom of my old flat look like a cave…

Maybe I just need an interior designer :)

I have coving in all our rooms because we are absolutely rubbish at painting straight lines up to the ceiling.
I dont think it stands out, it just blends in with the white ceiling.

If you like it and you want it, then go for it! I always think it adds a bit of style.

You don't need an interior designer, you just need to buy a few of those sample paint pots to see which paints look good on your walls/ceilings. Sometimes paints look darker than expected, so maybe just go for a paler version of your favourite.

    I don't like artex   . . .  although I think EssexExile was joking . . .  :)

  • Coving adds to a room and can give it more a finished look than just paper or paint, Im getting it done thru my whole house when I am ripping out and doing it up.

This. Although we skipped coving in the kitchen due to having floor-to-ceiling units. Took a lot of effort to get anything near a straight line along the wall/ceiling edges. The answer would have been white walls and ceilings but, having lived in a rental with white decor for almost a decade, I wanted some colour!
