iPhone to take two sim cards?

Looking at specs I see the iPhone XS only takes one sim and then an esim?
"Use of eSIM requires a wireless service plan (which may include restrictions on switching service providers and roaming, even after contract expiration). Not all carriers support eSIM. Use of eSIM in iPhone may be disabled when purchased from some carriers."
How do these work and is it easy to set up and change?

Its irritating as Apple do make a physical dual sim version of their phones but its only available in China where esims dont exist.
Setup is straight forward, you can even do it from within the device settings without any conversation with the carrier etc though dont know if the are the same deals. Outside of that most carrier apps can set it up for you or you can sign up with the carrier directly and get a QR code for setting the phone up. Leaving will be the normal challenges of cancelling a contract.1 -
Just added a contract O2 eSim (from esim.net). Took a few minutes to apply and within a minute the relevant QR code was delivered. Installation was a breeze and everything is working well.1

Thanks, I am trying to find a PAYG eSIM but O2 and others do not seem to sell them.0

At some point mobile operators will decide that they have maximised their revenue from this "premium" product and will allow it to trickle down to it's mass (PAYG) offerings. This is what has happened/is still happening with services such as 5g & Wi-Fi caling. It will then become available on their 2nd tier operators (VOXI, Smarty etc) and the MVNOs. Timescales will depend on the hardware being available to use eSims and therefore building a demand.0

My contract is with Giffgaff and they do not do eSIMs at all. So I really want an eSIM on a cheap PAYG for a few calls I do not want on my normal number. Have an old phone and pay Giffgaff £10 every six months or so to use it.0

Then why not look at a Voip option or one of the solutions that give temp numbers (that are just voip really but for a different purpose)?
