Hello, welcome to the September challenge. I hope everyone's had a good summer and is raring to go to make some extra cash this month.

This is the 167th month of this challenge, which was first started by Batgirl, in September 2007. Here is a link to the original thread as I am sure some of you are interested to read where it all began.
Thanks to Batgirl for starting it and for everyone who has kept it going for more than 13 years ( 14 years now I think!)

The original purpose of this challenge was to help people to try and make an extra £10 a day on top of their normal income to help things along. Ie paying off debt, making savings, paying for holidays, overpaying mortgages etc.

If you feel £10 is too much why not start at £5 (or less if you want)  or if you're brave join those who aim for £20 a day! Anything extra you make is great so set whatever target you think you can manage. It also doesn't have to be £10 each and every day - some days you make more and some days you make less, but aim for £310 (or whatever your target is) extra at the end of the month.

The idea is that everyone posts how they are making extra money and these shared ideas help all of us to learn new ways to help cut debt or earn/save money.

What cannot be added:
Wages from your main job

What can be added:
Overtime
Income from a second job
Daily clicks
Interest
Vouchers
Mystery shopping
And much, much more.

So, join us and see how much you can make this month!

Below are some ideas to get you started and a great place to read when you're in need of inspiration.

    Sell your old books/DVDs/CDs/games here:
    Amazon.co.uk, play.com, webuybooks, zapper, CEX

eBay - a place to sell anything and everything.

Gumtree, Preloved, cquot, ebid, craigslist, vivastreet, netmums.com, trade-it , Friday ad, priceminster - these are all places you can sell items too.

Survey sites - mysurvey and pinecone, prolific academic tend to be the best but there are many more it really depends on you finding the ones that work best for you - toluna, harris poll, valued opinions etc

also join Topcashback and Quidco - type in surveys in the search engine and some will pay you to join up with them.

Mobile phone to recycle? try https://www.onrecycle.co.uk/sell-my-phone/

etsy and folksy - If you enjoy making crafts why not have a go at selling them on etsy or folksy. They've been getting increasingly busier each year.

Collect  loyalty points for shopping - Tesco clubcard, Boots Advantage card, Morrisons More card, Superdrug Beautycard, Nectar card  (please let me know if there are any more loyalty cards to add)
You can also go through Nectar to earn points for shopping at ebay.

Trying to find other ways to make money? Check out the Boost Your Income board. It is full of ideas, including survey companies and product testing.

Keep reading for lots more ideas on how to make more money each month.

  • I would like to join this month please. I’m joining with a target of £10 a day. Any extra money I earn will be put towards paying my debt off.
After being debt free for a few years I know find myself in an extortionately amount of debt again. I had originally set myself a target of 21 months to pay it off (that’s how long it’s at 0% for) but I want to aim to do it in 12.

I’m starting off with a £9 payment from MS this morning.

Thanks for running the thread. Hope we can share some money making tips as the challenge progresses

Hi outoftheviciouscircle, welcome to the challenge. You've made great start, well done.

I've used a money off conditional spend offer for my weekly groceries, so off the starting blocks with £4/£300.

    Good morning,

I would like to join in if I may? It’s been a very long time since I did this challenge so it should be interesting. I think it’s definitely harder to make money now, when I did this last time, paper coupons you could print were still a thing as was things like Pigsback. I am showing my age here!

I have a £600 bill in November and I don’t want it to derail my savings plans too badly, so I need to be a bit creative to keep things on track.

I had winnings of £75 on my Premium Bonds this month which normally would go straight to savings, but we shall see. Prolific seems to have next to nothing so I think this is going to be really tough. I think a decluttering is in order as well.

My job job doesn’t have overtime but it does have mileage and for the first time in a year I have some miles to claim.

    good luck everyone!

I was just checking in to say that I've just cashed out £18.26 from Prolific. Its been really good to me the last couple of days and I do actually have £9 pending as well.

Anyhow, I can now add £18.26 to the pot taking my total so far to £70.73

    Good luck everyone

  • Hi Shineyhappy, welcome to the challenge. I remember Pigsback! I really liked that site.

Today I'm adding £10 amazon from voucher codes, so £14/£300.
