Thanks for your comments.  Let me recap and hopefully give a little more accurate information.

I have a TV aerial socket plate as shown in my OP. I have a coaxial cable leading from that into the aerial socket of my TV. The problem I’m having is that the Co-ax aerial plug which goes into the wall plate is loose it just about stays in the wall plate socket.

My original question was are there different sizes of co-ax aerial plugs, the answer to which seems to be No, they are a standard size but there is a difference in quality.  I’ve had a close look at the wall plate and the aerial socket seems to be a click-in one, so maybe  Ectophile has  got it right and it is damaged?

If this is the case my nephew is an electrician should he be able to replace the socket.

What do I look for if buying online

ps NSG666 don’t worry about it, I do it all the time ☹️🤓

The ‘skirt’ of your plug should be a fairly tight fit around the outer tube of the socket.
It goes inside the outer tube, not around. In the OP's photo you can even see flat springs on the inner side of the tube.
I don't understand why the connection can be lose.
The inner core of a TV plug might just be the wire as per Grumblers photo,
My photo shown a satellite plug, not a TV aerial one. The latter has much thicker inner core.

Every tv coax plug I’ve used, the screen ‘skirt’ goes over the outside of thesocket; maybe we are talking about different things

I only use sat cable for tv installations as tv coax cable is carp

    I am talking about
IEC 169-2 male and female connectorJPG

    So is the OP.

Just the cable or the connectors?
If the latter, what if the TV doesn't have satellite tuner (and satellite socket)? Not that I think that a satellite tuner will work with a terrestrial TV aerial plugged in. Yes, you can have a satellite socket on the wall and use a special cable with two different plugs.
That said, my PC freeview tuner has a satellite socket. And all sockets of my Labgear TV aerial splitter-amplifier in the loft are satellite too.

You might be able to tighten it a bit by squeezing the plug on the end of the cable with a pair of pliers to make it slightly oval.

I seem to have solved my problem.  I bought a new connector plug this morning, it does feel better quality.  It’s a decent fit, a tiny bit loose, but I’ll assume the wall plate socked has been widened a little what with all the putting in and taking out over the past while.  I’m tempted to wrap a bit of plumbers tape around the plug to, maybe, make the fit that little bit better.

I’ve now got a very decent picture and thank you all for your advice over the past few days

The outer part of the plug needs to make electrical contact with the ring part of the socket. Plumbers tape would prevent that contact and stop the aerial signal.
