OTG...Not working on my phone ? I have android V.7.1 ..Xiaomi MI MAX 2 phone

hi all,

hope are have been great. I have seen and tried several videos (about 55) but there is no way i can get the OTG to work. I am trying to connect a camera which has a USB port, type C port. By the way i have Xiaomi MI MAX 2, 6.44', 4GB RAM, 32GB ROM, Android ver 7.1.1. it also has MIUI which is some sort of O/S (chinese) which is never a bother.

I have tried these options :  gone to setting / developers options / activated the USB debugging on and off, i have done everything but the fact is, its not even powering when the camera or any other USB pen drives either are connected to the phone, let alone my android recognising it. I know a Million% i have connected the OTG many times before to transfer my phone files onto my computer without any problem, but now its just giving me trouble.....gggggrrrrrrrr

Does anyone have any ideas?...I do not want to reset my phone as i will lose everything as both my google accounts are full and many photos have stopped syncing..

Any ideas anyone please ?

I thank you to all and await to hear from anyone.
Many thanks again and kind regards
Be safe

  • Connecting your phone to your computer is not OTG - it is a traditional client-server USB connection where the phone is the client and the PC is the server from a USB perspective - so I'd say you haven't actually used OTG successfully yet.

Your phone is compatible with OTG but it need to correct adaptor or cable to connect to another device such as a camera or USB flash drive.

What cable / OTG adaptor are you using?

Have you enabled OTG on the phone? A guide to doing it is in the link below:

It automatically turns off after 10 mins so you will need to enable it every time you want to use it.

Would it not be simpler to get a OTG card adapter and take the memory card out of the camera and transfer the images that way?
  • Have you tried using a different cable?
