Where to find a conveyancer?

I had my offer accepted (surprisingly)
Overwhelmed by the options and 2 lots of price comparisons sites, I don't even know where to begin, it should be a simple process, empty house and I'm not in a chain. I have an accepted offer, a MIP and so far that's it.
I know personal recommendation is best but I don't know anyone who has recently bought a house

So check out local solicitors nearby who do conveyancing.
Call them up and get a price.
You could go to an online firm and maybe save a few pounds but it's nice having a local firm of solicitors with a high street office.
    Call me old fashioned

Is there a forum or facebook group for your local area? Could be a good place to look for recommendations.

Alternatively, look at the conveyancers on Trustpilot and go through the well-reviewed ones to get a few quotes. Most of them allow you to get a quote instantly without having to put in any contact details. I was going to go with a well reviewed one from Trustpilot (not in my area) but ended up finding a local one for cheaper that was also well recommended.

Most of the Trustpilot listed ones are not "online" firms btw, most are just high street conveyancers that happen to have good websites.
  • Thanks, I've put it out there on a local Facebook group and had a recommendation from a friend

Why do people still think that good reviews (or the lack of bad reviews) on Trustpilot is the sign of a good company?

  • Does anyone know why some of the quotes are giving me the cost for Stamp duty considering the property is only £65,000
  • Thanks, finally figured it out. Something I should really have been aware of
