What does "We both are on the mid" mean?

Are you able to identify the driver? is the driver insured?
Have you spoken yet to their innocent 3rd part claims department?
  • did you manage to get the number plate details?

Both cars are registered on the Motor Insurer’s Database which therefore means that both parties are insured.

If the other driver is insured, and you know who they are - then, yes, their insurance will pay.

If the other driver is untraced or uninsured, and your BF's policy is fully comp, then it will pay.

If all other routes fail, there's the Motor Insurance Bureau's uninsured driver fund.

Don't expect them to pay what it costs to replace your car though.
They will pay market value for your car at the time of the collision... or the value you declared on your proposal, whichever's lower.

It means both vehicles are insured... it could be that someone other than the insured was driving the car at the time of the accident. Most the time it will mean that there is at least an RTA insurer to go after if it turns out the driver was driving without insurance (one of many who may think they have Driving Other Cars on their policy but don't/dont realise NDs dont benefit etc) but MID alone is insufficient to know if it'll be a straight forward claim or not.

Since used car prices are insane at the moment, (WBAC are offering me £28,500 for the car I paid just under £20,000 for 3 years ago) should we be 'phoning our insurer on a weekly basis with an updated value?

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • My Dad's car was written off last week. His insurance payout offer was about £400 more than he'd paid for it several months earlier (from a main dealer). Not even any discussion or negotiation needed! Not all insurers offer outdated values... 😀
