Quick question about Edinburgh dates and costs

Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on the mad discrepancy in hotel prices I've come across.  We've been invited to a family member's big birthday party in Edinburgh early next year, the weekend that's been chosen is the first weekend in February (4th to 6th).  Every hotel I've looked at has been massively dearer for that weekend than for the preceding or following weekends, or for that matter than any other dates in their calendar! For example, Travelodge are quoting £25 per night for the 28th Jan weekend and the 11th Feb weekend, but £125 to £145 per night for the 4th Feb! It's been the same with other hotels too.  Is there something big happening that weekend? I just can't justify going if we're going to have to fork out almost £300 as opposed to £50 for the other weekends

Thank you! That explains it.  I'm really having second thoughts about going - six nations and six times the price!! Might have to make our excuses...

Maybe they don't realise that it is the six nations weekend.  Or perhaps they want to be part of it.

I don't think they'd even be aware, rugby isn't on their radar  it's a shame, but we'll just have to see them some other time.
