Many jobs are taking longer than normal at the moment, so it's quite likely that all his plant is out and he can't get it back yet.

I'm just worried its empty promises. I dont believe he has the kit - its a bridge that is needed which he says he's renting/buying/arranging for delivery for weeks. If we dont get that kit then the work cant be finished.

It is quite plausible what he is saying is true.

There's shortages of all kinds of stuff at the moment - if he needs to hire in or buy something specially for the job then he's even more at the mercy of supply shortages than if he had one in use on another job which he might have more influence to hurry along.

The construction industry is currently experiencing a crazy time, with normally daft sounding issues causing very real and genuine problems.

Is he talking about bridge beams, which are normally needed on larger commercial jobs. On domestic work you can usually get round the building without these.

No consolation to you, but it's not just scaffolders who are unreliable.  We had work done replacing the roof of our conservatory with a solid one.  Main contractor was great but he subbied the electrics.  Electrician didn't turn up when they should and the people doing the roof said they had used the same people for about 5 years but they had bcome a nightmare over the past few months.  Their suspicion was that they had take on too much work.

I was supposed to have scaffolding put up first week of August for some roof work. Still waiting <grrr> and have not heard a peep from the contractor.
Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

    Its so frustrating isnt it.

Update - scaffolder turned up late yesterday afternoon/evening and has done some more. It looks a complete dogs dinner as far as I can see. I shall just have to wait until the builder sees it tomorrow.

Put some photos on if you can.

Yes bridge beams - these are needed to get over a neighbours property. He's used a couple short ones from what I can tell and the rest are shorter poles with joins. Its certainly nothing like how it was first explained to me. I can see through what he's been doing - he doesnt have the equipment or means to get anything large to the site so he's making do with smaller lengths and joins so taking forever. I shall have to wait until the builder return.
