Which banks allow multiple credit cards?

I know that Lloyds allows two. How about Halifax/Bank of Scotland? What about Sainsbury's?

    Yep, definitely not Sainsbury's.

A few years ago I had a credit card with Capital One and then discovered that they had a different one with lower interest rates so phoned and asked if I could have one of those as well. No problem. I ran two concurrently for a while and then moved the balance of the old one onto the new one, no problem again and managed to pay it all off within ten months.  I don't have a Capital One card now but don't need one. I do have a Sainsbury's one!

Yes, Halifax allow 2 cards. I have 2 as well, both 0% purchase cards.
American Express, either 4 or 5 cards per customer.
Barclaycard only 1 card, though some people on MSE forum claim they have 2.
    Nationwide only 1 card
HSBC told me they allow 2 if the second one is Classic credit card.

Who has info about other lenders?

    Virgin ??
    MBNA ??
    Santander ??
    Tesco ??
    M&S Bank ??
    TSB ??
    Smile / Co-operative ??

It sounds like you don't believe them.

Some people do have more than one Barclaycard because a) Barclays suspend their "only one" rule from time to time and allow you apply for another card, and b) Barclaycard has taken over some other credit card providers, so customers who already hold a Barclaycard end up with another one.

Barclays mentions people with several Barclaycards on their website:

"If I've got more than one Barclaycard how do I see them both together in the Barclaycard app? | Barclaycard" https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/help/other-information/see-cards-app

I had three - a Barclaycard cashback one which split giving me an Amex and a Visa on one account and a separate Visa. All of them as a result of acquisitions. They then stopped the arrangement with Amex and the cashback account went back to one card. I called to cancel my second account, intending to keep the cashback one and they paid me £50 to keep it open. I waited about 6 months and then closed it anyway.

So they have changed their minds in the past, pushing people to maintain accounts, rather than reducing limits / closing accounts, as they seem to do now.

Why do you ask? I'm suddenly wondering if I'm missing some sort of multi-card trick.

MBNA definitely allow 2 as I've got 2, think Virgin might although haven't tried for another 1 because I don't need it.

Edit: just seen in this thread that Virgin do allow 2.

I have quite a few credit cards but they all run out of offers periods (some were Balance Transfer, some were Purchase cards) so I am thinking about closing them. However, it might be wiser to apply for a second card with the same bank, e.g. with a long Purchase offer, than transfer the limit from the old card to the new one and then close the first down. This has several advantages: no need to wait before applying, no need to worry whether I will get the limit I need or not, and finally, if the application is rejected, I still can use the existing credit card.
