Have you tried opening the images on another computer?
Have you tried opening the images on the phone?
What software are you using to open the images on the computer?  Have you tried different software?

Right-click on an image and open with Paint.  Sounds like you're opening image files in the wrong program.  The Servicing Stack thing is a red herring.

No real reason to download images directly from your phone. With the assumption that they're backed up on your Google account (in their full size), simply open up Google Photos from your browser and download them from there if or when you wish.
