Heads up, compers! In order to investigate a technical issue, we've had to move some of the older threads from Game Over into a new category called 'Game Over Archives'. It'll be comps from before 2017, so shouldn't have too much impact on your day-to-day Forum experience. Thanks for your patience!

What are your favourite type of competitions and prizes to win?

Hi everyone,

I am wondering what type of competitions you like entering and why? For example, prize draws, question and answers, creative competitions etc?

Also, what are your favourite prizes to win, for example, cash, books, holidays, toys etc?

Would be interesting to find out what people like. For me, I enjoy creative competitions and think it would be nice to have a forum for creative/effort comps :)

Cash would be lovely of course, although vouchers are great too.

Love a good scented candle, even better if it is double wick or more.

I do love a product I wouldn't necessarily buy, whether it be food or beauty.

Those would be my most loved prizes I guess, but happy with anything I enter for, especially if I can add it to a gift pile for someone - I know people of most ages so very useful!

As for competitions, I love a simple form or a like and comment, I always try and make sure I follow their pages whether they state it or not and tag some friends if I think they would be interested. I'm not a fan of those that ask for shares. Local competitions are always good as generally less entries if it requires collection.

Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.

I prefer a simple form as I freely admit I'm hopeless at creative ones especially if they are judged.  I am in awe at some of the creations that people use to enter comps, although its obvious that some do that sort of thing for a living eg amazingly decorated cakes -  me sticking a few chocolate buttons on top of a cake is just not in the same league 😁.

I enter most types of comps except those where you need to play games and the fastest time/high score wins or ones relying on votes.

Favourite prizes to win are the foodie ones.  I have had several foodie wins that I liked so much i have since bought them regularly.

Money is always useful and I try to spend it on a treat as otherwise it just goes in the pot for general spending - lovely as it is to have extra cash

    Nice thread  :)

My fave type of comps are writing ones: poems or captions in particular. For some reason, I also really like spin to wins, like the Dorset cereals one. I sometimes enter these when I don't want the prize. It's just exciting watching the thing spin and seeing if I'm gonna be lucky.

My fave prizes, other than cash, natch, are where you win an experience that you want to try. Like one recently was to win a chance to DJ for an hour on Planet Rock. I would've loved to win that, but didn't. Oh well...maybe next time.

I love entering competitions that I know that someone I know would love to have/really need.
I recently won a competition for a beautiful expensive cat bed that I would never normally be able to get for my cats. Lo and behold it's their favourite bed! Everytime I see them in it i feel so chuffed and happy.

@Blulu I love a good Spin to Win, just claimed my shopping bag with my Yeokens
I am never hopeful with spin to wins, but I do have to say, I find them quite exciting

Well done @Ms_Dee - I think they've closed the Yokens thing now, so you prob got in just in time - but you may well know that. Glad it's not me who loves that adrenalin rush of thinking - woo-hoo, I might win some cereal or a yoghurt

    Hi,

Nice to meet you all. My name is Ricky.

My fave prizes are cash or vouchers that can be used at a place like amazon or my local supermaket.

But then if I really want something and the images are nice, then that is very powerful. I like ones where you can see roughly how many entries there have been so you can work out your chances of winning

    Thanks
    Ricky

I'm another who enjoys a good spin to win, even though I know the chance of winning is low i cant help but get hopeful everytime 😅

I love a good book comp and winning a book was what actually got me into comping.

I like the simple ones usually, but I remember several years ago I won a competition where you had to be the last person to click an egg before it cracked and I spent hours of my day checking back in to see what state it was in before putting my entry in. That was really fun.

There was also one where we had to guess the new walkers flavours of crisps. I got them all right(!) and although I didn’t win the prize I was one of a very small number (I think around 30) who guessed them all and won a huge box of new flavours.

My favourite wins (bar cash) are the types of things I’d love but wouldn’t buy normally or could afford. Usually beauty products, household electronics and experiences/ stays or tickets.
Best 2021 wins: 48 bottles of cider, £200 John Lewis Vouchers, £100 Currys vouchers

The simpler the better, as far as I am concerned. I didn't used to mind doing RCs or Gleams, but so many of them now have 20 or even 30 different ways to enter and if you don't do them all, your chances are not equal to everyone else. I'd much rather it just be one or two things.

Likewise with social media comps, many are still quite simple, but they increasingly want you to do 10 different things before qualifying, often for a low value item.

I love instant win comps. I don't often  win them, but it takes the pain out of waiting, and it's a nice instant surprise if you win.

Obviously I'd love cash, or a holiday to florida lol, but otherwise I really enjoy winning sewing/crafting comps, or toys for DD and I really really want to win a nice advent calendar for myself this year! 😍
    February wins: Theatre tickets
