Amazon takes a picture of my passport to deliver a bottle of whiskey

Hi I am 40+ and have grey hairs. I dont look under 18. I understand Amazon asking for my age when delivering alcohol orders. However, they go a number of steps too far and insist on seeing my driving license or passport and taking a photo of it. When I queried this they kept repeating they need to verify age. I feel this is asking for inappropriate level of information and putting my personal data at risk - not sure I'd trust amazon or their delivery drivers with a copy of my passport. How can I escalate this please?

By buying from somewhere who don't want to see your passport?

Alternatively you could point out that their terms and conditions do say they need to see it and record the year of birth, but will not take a photograph. Sounds like a driver training issue to me  - go back to amazon and point that out?

Yup, pretty sure they dont need a photo of it, just to see it. They sometimes need to take photos to prove delivery took place. Sounds like the driver has made a mistake.

If you don't want someone to take a photo of your passport, don't show them your passport.

But for what it's worth, they've only ever looked at my ID rather than take a pic.

Was the photograph not because they photograph the item delivered to an open door but for alcohol they  may have to hand it to you, rather than leave it on the doorstep.

It's possible that they are randomly required to take pictures to ensure compliance?  I've never been asked for ID for age restricted items, it's blatantly obvious I'm old enough, but I can see some people, especially if they've been caught in the past giving orders to underage people, being ultra-cautious.

They won't be told off for IDing everyone, they will if they hand it to a child and get found out
