Lost Emails BT account

My friend is worried sick. She has BT account and all her emails from years and years have just disappeared. They have told her they are trying to investigate it but she won't hear anything until Tuesday. Is this a common thing. Has it happened to other people. Is there anything she can do. Is she entitled to any compensation.
I don't have account like this, I just use Gmail and Outlook so I don't know what to suggest to help her.
Thank you

Thank youEmail is not a permanent storage solution. If there was anything important they should have been saved at the time.Re: Compensation - for what? You don't "pay" for the email as such, you get it bolted on (assuming this is a BT address) as part of your service.Of course if your friend is not with BT and is with somebody else because they moved provider, they are entitled to terminate it as per T&CS for non paying customers (or pay whatever it is for extended access).

I was only thinking of compensation as she probably pays for BT as internet provider. I only use Hotmail so I don't know and I switch providers every year. If u loose work stuff it could be detrimental to your business. I always forward anything to hubby on yahoo so we both have a copy or screenshot if necessaryNeil_Jones said:paul2louise said:My friend is worried sick. If you work for somebody and the email goes bye bye because they're doing it on the cheap, that's their problem not yours. If you're self employed that's different as you are responsible for it.Anyway any decent business would have a .co.uk/.com/.<whatever> email address - aka a "proper" one and not one with an ISP name in it. Then they can move provider all they like and it continues to work. This also applies to domestic users as well, though the next best alternative is a free provider like Hotmail/Gmail./Yahoo. It is generally better to have the "proper" address but you can use a Gmail/Outlook/Yahoo account to control/send/collect from it if that's what you prefer behind the scenes.Re: compensation - unless you're paying for business use on the broadband/line (which is at least twice the price of a domestic product and usually includes VAT on top of that), compensation isn't going to happen. As I've already said, email is not a permanent storage solution and most issues with it occur on servers that are outside of the provider's control.. You may get a small amount if the broadband was out and you had no connection on a domestic line (on business if you pay enough you get dibs on outage/fault repair), but otherwise... join the queue.1 -
Sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise. It's very rare that a lost email is critical with no alternative work around. We think they're critical until they're gone.1

It happened to me a couple of years ago. I left it with BT and the e-mails gradually started to come back. Does she have an e-mail client (such as MS Outlook) and can she see them on there. If she does use Outlook, best to back them up. when they come backpaul2louise said:My friend is worried sick. She has BT account and all her emails from years and years have just disappeared.
