quick transfer from hsbc?

I need to make a money transfer tomorrow from my hsbc account for a house purchase and I want it to be quick! Anybody know if I can do a CHAPS transfer over the phone or if I have to go into a branch to do it?

I have done CHAPS transfers with HSBC before over the telephone - but not for something as large as a house purchase but I presume that will be ok.

From memory you need to call them by about 2.30pm for them to process the CHAPS payment on the same day, but the earlier the better I guess..

they can only do 10k per say over the phone so I had to go into a branch to do it - hardly any more secure as all they wanted was to see my debit card and for me to tell them my address! Costs £20 if anybody is interested.

I would agree better to do it in person.
Take ID with you even if it is your own local branch.
However if completion is tomorrow I would be inclined to make the payment today.
