I think you need to get your suspension fixed. Or find what is hanging down from your car.It may help to drive so that the wheels on one side go over the hump, and the wheels on the other side go around it.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

4.1 Legislation does not permit the use of vertical
deflections such as road humps, speed cushions and
‘thumps’ on 40 mph limit roads outside London. These
measures are not recommended for use on any 40
mph limit roads and can only be used on 40 mph limit
roads in London after consultation with the Secretary
of State

Deleted_User said:My local council have decided to go against public feelings/ Government advice and added MORE speed humps around my area
They have put cushion type ones in a road with a 40mph limit without any warning signs
The humps cannot be driven over at more than 5 mph without a rubbing noise from the underside iof my car
Is there any precident where someone has successfully sued their council for damage to their car??
I think you are just winding people up.

We've seen that, but in traditional dot gov style, they don't quote the relevant legislation, and it isn't in The Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Traffc calming legislation Vertical defections 2.1.
1 The primary legislation is contained in sections 90A to 90F of the Highways Act 1980 (as amended by the Transport Act 1981). The Act (sections 90A and 90B) makes it clear that road humps can only be constructed on roads with speed limits of 30 mph or less. There are exemptions for London (see paragraph 2.1.5).
