Builders Dispute! Help please!

We hired a builder 3 months ago to extend our garage and replace conservatory roof and windows. He gave us written quote for both jobs and verbal timeline which he said both jobs should be done between 4 to 6 weeks. We paid him £8k deposit. He and his team started quite good, 2 weeks after that he asked another £6k for render, electricity, etc. But he is barely back since then.

We found a faulty too on his works. The garage roof is leaking and he didn't install the gutter properly. We told him this issue since mid of July and requested him to fix it. But he keeps fobbing us off by saying he'll do next week, and another week, and so on.

They are on week 12 now and our garage is stil leaking, the floor and rendering hasn't been done, and the door hasn't been fitted. They're not even start with the conservatory. On top of that they also broke our garden equipment which cost us nearly £300. They also never clean up and now our drive is covered in concrete. Whenever we text/called him, he just fobs us off.

Any advise please what to do? We are thinking to take him to court but we are not sure how long the process is and how much does it cost. Thanks.

Get a quote for the work to be rectified/repaired and send him an LBA for the cost. Then get a professional to finish it.

He isn't going to give you any money, that is why it was suggested to send him an LBA (Letter Before Action).   Do you have his name and address?

If you have a google, it will tell you what it is and there are plenty of templates to give you a good idea of what you need to say.  Then you send it to him.  All you need is a free proof of posting there isn't a requirement to send it registered post.
