The fact that there even is a "sales guy" is a warning sign. Good products and services sell themselves, they don't need salesmen to come to you and persuade you.

Having until recently spent almost all my working life in sales , I feel obliged to respond  :)

There are 'good products and services' and there are potential good customers . Often they need to find each other, and a deal needs to be done that suits both parties , which is usually the job of a salesperson.

Before there are any rude comments about financial services or double glazing salespeople. I was in B2B sales for  raw materials, and my customers were certainly not naive , most were sharp as nails !

I know nothing about SJP, other than what I have read here, but there is an effect where people are happier with products they have paid more for.

Branded painkillers are seen by many people as more effective at relieving pain, despite having exactly the same ingredients as cheaper generic ones, because they come in fancier packaging and are more expensive.

People who buy very expensive cars are more likely to give them favourable ratings in surveys, regardless of whether they have had problems with the vehicle, as having spent so much money on them they can't admit, even to themselves that they were wrong.

Thanks all fo the input, a really good discussion and I hear what some say about its horses for courses but these figures just don't represent good value for money whichever way you dress it up. £378,000 in fees is way to much in my opinion.
