Marbles Card - late payment fees

Options
Hi there, hope someone can help me!

I am on a 0% offer with Marbles and just been going through all my statements: yeah I know, I should ALWAYS look through them but I forget the importance of it at times. Basically, here is the story:

1. I opened up the card - hurray.

2. I try to set up a direct debit over the phone, for a consecutive few months, the monies failed to go from my account and then they said I need to fill in a direct debit form which I failed to received.

3. However, when my payment would not be received, they would always phone and I would pay, to my knowledge at present (as I remember being told that I would not be charged any monies and also I did check my statements!)

4. I finally set up a standing order with my bank to pay Marbles every month. I just realised from this months statement that my payment has been received one day late which prompts the bank to charge me £12 late payment fee!! This seems to be the case since July!

Is there anything I can do? Any advice for possible calls of action?

Moral of the Day: Always check your statements and dates as credit card companies love free money!!

  • You may lose your 0% too - ring them and check.
  • I don't seem to have lost my 0% as it doesn't show up on my statement - though I will call them tomorrow - I don't understand what to do! They were quick to call me before and I am annoyed that I set up the standing order but for a date that would make it arrive a day late!

maybe they got sick of being your credit card alarm, they are in buisness to make money not to nanny their customers.

  • I'd say your best hope of getting this sorted in your favour, not theirs, is to make use of point 2 of your OP.

If they had set up the Direct Debit, none of this would have happened.

If they cannot get their heads around this at first, mentioning the Financial Ombudsman should clear their minds.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
  • Same thing happened to me when I missed the first payment on a new IF credit card and got a £20 late payment charge for not setting up the direct debit in time. I was at fault here so I took it on the chin, but at least Marbles phoned YOU to ask for payment before the deadline, which IF never did and just charged me. Standing orders usually take a couple of days to get processed before payment is received by the payee and therefore you should change the date before your next payment. Call them up, explain the situation and tell them that you thought the standing order would have been paid before the due date and that you have already changed it for the next payment and would marbles consider a refund of the late payment charge as it was only one day late, a genuine mistake and will not happen again. It is at least worth a try and don't forget to be nice to them on the phone, which may increase your chances!
  • Many thanks for your advice!

When I initially opened the account, they called me when I missed my payment - I had thought the DD was set and then asked them to set it up and went through the details over the phone. 2nd month went and the DD still wasn't working and then there was the excuse that it takes a while to process. This went on for ages then they said it was never set up and then sent me a form which I never received! But they would phone me....then I got round to setting up the standing order but just realised it got there a day late...since like July!!

Phoning them up seems like the next step to take..wish me good luck!

im surprised they havent charged you before now as you say this has been going on since july , so its not just a case of one late payment ! pay the fee and get over it .
