Faulty Fridge Freezer

Can someone explain what my rights are please.

The FF was purchased from AO.com in December 2020. In mid February I had to have an engineer out to replace a bulb Today I've had to have another engineer out because there was a wet patch on the side of the appliance. The engineer has deemed the issue to be beyond repair and it will need replacing.

The FF is too tall for my flat, I didn't have much choice on what to buy in December last year, I'd just moved and needed a FF. But because of Covid and Brexit there were shortages of parts and of appliances. The appliance I did want, wouldn't have been available for another 2.5 months, and the store room model had a fault with it so it couldn't be sold to me. So I went to AO.com and purchased the now 'irreparable' FF.

What I really want is cash back, so I can purchase the model that I originally wanted, which is now in stock. But I was told by the engineer it will likely be a straight swap with a new FF of the same model, or a voucher with either Sharp, or AO.com, but he obviously couldn't say which if any I'd get.

Am I entitled to cash back? Do I stand my ground? Or do I accept a straight swap or voucher?

Thank You for any help!

After nine months, the retailer can decide the remedy.  If they want to replace, they can replace.  You can't insist on a refund but there's no harm in asking for one.  Bear in mind they are entitled to reduce the refund to reflect the nine months of use you've already had.  You might find that they're prepared to offer a voucher, and that might not be reduced the same way a cash refund can be.  If the voucher is enough to buy the model you want, great.

Forget the bulb issue.  Unless the bulb location is so poorly designed that the whole fridge needs taking apart to replace it, fridge bulbs are usually obtained for less than £3 and take a minute to swap.
