I just put a memory stick into a USB port on my laptop and it says it is in USB Drive G when I then put another memory stick into the same USB port it said USB Drive D.Four memory sticks said USB Drive D and three said USB Drive G.Surely they should all be the same or am I wrong.

Windows assigns drive letters to whatever type of drive is available—fin the order of floppies, internal hard disks, optical drives, SD cards, and external USB drives. Hence why USB floppy disk drives get Drive A, much like a regular drive would have done - its the storage type, not the device.https://www.howtogeek.com/96298/assign-a-static-drive-letter-to-a-usb-drive-in-windows-7/ might be of interest (also applies to 10) if you want a fixed letter.
