Thoughts on chances of ticket refund.

Morning all,
We booked tickets for BBC Gardeners World in 2020 which was obviously cancelled. It was then transferred to new similar dates in 2021. As were still planned to go we didn't request a refund.
Fast forward to this year and we also had the new dates cancelled and transferred to a date at the end of August. With one thing and another, this slipped our minds until yesterday when we actually received e-tickets. Unfortunately we can't go to the new date.
In my mind we should still be eligable for a refund of our original tickets because the original event didn't take place and ther terms of purchase suggested this was the case. However, it seems that the new show had a window in which we had to claim a refund before we accepted the new date and terms by default.
What are people's thoughts on this? It seems to me that they cannot really impose terms and conditions by default and that if they really wanted a window of acceptance then it should have been that tickets were automatically refunded if you didn't contact them.
The problem is that the show starts tomorrow so I really have to do something today to try and get our money back. The added complication is that the ticket agent has changed although the promotor hasn't.

These things all depend on the detailed terms and conditions, but I suspect you have answered your own question:With one thing and another, this slipped our minds until yesterday1

As I said, it depends on the terms and conditions, but if there was no coronavirus, and you had simply forgotten about the event until the tickets arrived, I assume you would not have expected to get a refund.1

Having tickets gave you priority for the new date.
They needed to know if you were cancelling so they could offer tickets to others who now wanted to attend.
