Combi boiler replacement

Options
Hi,
We live in a 2 bedroom flat and have an old Biasi Combi Compact boiler that was I believe installed in 2005. It works for a few minutes then shuts off, we had an engineer come in and he said one of the boards was burned out. Its about £300 to replace the board and about £2100 to replace with new Worcester Bosch boiler. The £2100 is a lot of money however is it worth repairing a 15 year old boiler? When we had another guy who usually services it come in last winter he would not be able to issue a safe certificate because he said the boiler was nearly coming off the wall. He also suggests to replace it.

We are only planning on being at the property for another year or so as we just had a kid.

1. Would you repair or replace the boiler?
2. The engineer is gas safe is there any other certificates we should be asking for so we have it when we sell the place?

Thanks,

The first engineer said it was nearly coming off the wall, but didn't offer to fix it properly to the wall (for a price)?  If not then sounds like he was trying to upsell a new boiler.
However, in answer to your question.  If you are intending to move in a year a so then just pay the £300 to get it fixed - and properly attached to the wall.

Thanks. Is the oil boiler a potential negotiation issue when selling the flat - e.g. how likely is it for buyers to be insisting we reduce the price to account for the boiler?

Unless the buyer or surveyor see any an visible issues with the boiler then it's assumed it's working.  At most they may ask to see the rads getting hot, and hot water from the tap. So as long as the boiler does that, then it's not up to the buyers to say that they want to see x type of boiler installed before they buy.

Of course the seller can just say no to any of that. Ours said it was drained and not available to test even for water when the suvey occured.

Which may sound very dodgy. It was 13 years old I think.

However even given that. 2 micro turns on some connections, a bit of ptfe on 2 bleed valves and putting the water back in made it last for 5 more years! Some people just are not techincal and think they have something to hide!

On buying a property if the boiler is over 10 I would assume it will need changing at some point and that asking for a reduction becuase of it would be ridiculous.

We ended up putting in a new boiler for £2k all-in. Piece of mind replacing 16 year old boiler, investing in it is a sunk cost. It wouldn't pass gas safe certification as it was hanging off the wall and the flute was broken.
