Now they're telling me that unless the debt is paid by the closing date of the tariff, I'll be forced onto a more expensive tariff and I wont be allowed to switch - they wont release their hold on my supply apparently.
This is not exactly the threat it once was as they can only put you on their standard variable tariff and as that is capped by Ofgen it is likely to be the cheapest tariff you can get with them or any other supplier for the next few months, so switching isn't going to help anyway.
However, you do have to prepare yourself for a price increase as although the SVT may be the cheapest you can get it is still going to cost you more than you were paying before...

  • Tried to submit my meter readings yesterday. The bloody "Submit reading" button was greyed out! Anyone else suffered this problem?

My tariff is coming to an end with So Energy.
I've had a final statement and been told I owe them close to £300.
Apparently they have been taking Smart Meter readings every month however they will only adjust my direct debit every 6 months leading to underpayments despite having accurate monthly usage readings.
Now they're telling me that unless the debt is paid by the closing date of the tariff, I'll be forced onto a more expensive tariff and I wont be allowed to switch - they wont release their hold on my supply apparently. This will trap me in a spiral of deeper and deeper debt. Surely this hold on my gas and electric supply cant be legal?
Do you know the opening reading from the start of the tariff, it shouldn't change throughout the entire plan, and the latest reading plus the daily charges? Just add them all up and deduct the money you have paid this will give you a credit or debit balance. Pay off any debt if it exists, if you can.

I have a SMETS 1 meter and I take daily readings for the electric and weekly for the gas. I also get 30 minute readings for the electric from Octopus the day after the usage.

Your supplier might be estimating some or all the readings and the debt could also be estimated. Check your bills to see if there is an E before the usage, this means an estimated bill.
Someone please tell me what money is

Email them the meter readings, that's what I did when my submit readings button wasn't working. It was only for one month but I will submit readings on the day a bill will be produced early morning.
