He's got a call with the Housing Office on his list... the property is in joint names, so, once everything is sorted HB/CT will be also; he'll remove her from the tenancy on presentation of the death certificate (which can't be issued just yet).poppy12345 said:calcotti said:
If the HB claimant was the deceased will it not have stopped already?poppy12345 said:Bjter said:Possibly, Funeral expense payment, Breavement Support payment, Warm Home Discount Scheme, Housing bnefits and Council Tax Scheme.
Which have all been previously advised, apart from the WHD. Housing benefit will end once a claim for Universal Credit is made.
Good point, i didn't think of that. Yes it will have providing the death has been reported.

It's not as simple as that. If she was the HB claimant the HB claim doesn't simply transfer to him. I would expect a new claim to be required but a new claim is no longer permitted because HB has been replaced by Universal Credit. I would therefore expect him to need to claim Universal Credit to continue getting help with the rent.Ianstone1 said: He's got a call with the Housing Office on his list... the property is in joint names, so, once everything is sorted HB/CT will be also; he'll remove her from the tenancy on presentation of the death certificate (which can't be issued just yet).
If he was the HB claimant then it can continue but will end when he claims UC which it appears that he's going to need to do if he wants some income.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -

A claim for UC should be started ASAP because i see no point in delaying the process. There's also a 5 week wait until your first payment. I know he can have an advance payment but this will need to be repaid back and will reduce future UC payments so if they can avoid the advance payment then it's wise to do so.

Even if they did, all they would need to do is look at the bank statements and it tells you next to each payment what it's for.

Certainly with us, they all came in as separate payments on different schedules - my CA every Monday, ESA every other Tuesday and PIP every fourth Wednesday - then that changed to weekly in advance. As you say, each one is identified, along with your NINo.0
