This is appalling isn't it. I'm not sure why people won't just move into rented. Millions of people live in rented their whole lives yet for some it's just "not possible".

There's a huge delusion of grandeur with vendors at the moment. The tables will turn eventually.
Why on earth would somebody who is mortgage free want to move into rented accommodation and pay thousands of pounds in rent and two lots of removal fees just to satisfy some buyer in a rush. It's a sellers market at the moment, houses are selling before they get onto rightmove, there will always be someone else to buy a place....at the moment!

Exactly my point, at the moment.

Anybody with any knowledge of the rental market at the moment would know thats not as easy as it sounds!
It's not easy. It is doable. Whatever your situation.

True but I do think there is an element of snobbishness about renting and people thinking they couldn't lower themselves to do such a thing.

I think exactly this. The amount of people who say they couldn't possibly rent when millions of people do it.

If they 'had' to do it, they would find a way.

Well because they said they would at the viewing and at the point of offer being accepted. That’s really the main gripe for lots of us. Don’t lie in order to get the bids in and then be **** 2 weeks before exchange by saying you will never do it.

The thing is they want to sell, but they don't really want to sell.

So rubbish - feel for OP and climbthatwallseegar! I hope it works out. I’ve been told vendor is not prepared to rent and will only move for that 1 single house they’ve had offer accepted on. Polar opposite of we’ll be going into rental as we’ve decided to move out of London. Just simply lied. So I’m also looking in case they cut the cord.
    Fingers crossed for you!
Did the seller tell you that they would move into rented accommodation, or was it the estate agent. Really feel for you if it was the seller, nothing i hate more than someone going back on their word. Though where i come from, people still stick to their word once shook on thankfully, though i can see that going fast as some don't seem to have morals now.

I really don't think that it's anything to do with "snobbishness" it's just a pain to have to move twice and then effectively throw money away in rent for months and month.

In my most recent house purchase I'm in the middle of a chain and there is a new build at the top so there has been a long wait and now an on notice completion for everyone in the chain. I made it clear from the start i didn't want to move into rented because I'm happy to wait and made sure that my buyers understood this when viewing the property.
I'm sure a lot of people on here would have thought moving into rented would have been a good option but what's the point of wasting extra money and the extra hassle if it isn't really needed.

I suspect people say "we'll move into rented" thinking it will make the purchaser more likely to offer and meanwhile assuming that they will never actually do this - viewed a property a couple of days ago, they want to move within the small village (!) and would "go into rented if no property available" - yeh right
