Sorting utilities in new home (FTB)
How do you sort utilities when FTB?
Hi all,
I am a First Time Buyer so sorry for (another) simple question…
Obviously when I move into the house I am supposed to take photos of all the meters, then what?
1. I know what energy provider the current owners are with, am I meant to go with them?
2. If I do have to go with them initially, can I then switch to a cheaper plan with another provider?
3. Also, after we completed, do you think we can organise broadband/WiFi so the engineer comes in just after we complete? Or do we have to wait for the current owners to be ‘disconnected’
Thanks all!

On arrival you read the meters and take the photos. You are in a "deemed contract" with the energy provider used by the previous owners. So call that supplier and introduce yourself, give them the readings, set up an account. You can ask them for their best tariff without any exit fees. When this is done, you are free to choose to switch to another supplier (or suppliers, separate gas and electric can be cheaper).Regards phone & broadband, you can choose your provider and request a connection date as close as possible to when you move in.0

Don't forget the water meter ! Make sure you know where the property and street stopcocks are located and that they're not jammed. Above all, make sure that they actually stop the water flow: they can fail to do so if they're furred up, but it's not always obvious.0
