Gift aid limits and self assessment

I know that you can gift aid up to 4 times the total of your income tax and capital gains tax, and for self assessment that works fine for a declaration of the previous year's figures. But if I want to make another gift aid donation at 4 times the limit in the following year through self assessment is the "income tax" figure used as the 4X limit the one before or after the gift aid adjustment? (I am ignoring all the issues of claiming taxable income in the year you are making the self assessment claim). If after then the limit will ratchet down year on year assuming all other figures are the same which would be a shame
