Can anyone recommend a car hire company who will allow me to hire a car - my photo card licence expired and is caught up in the DVLA backlog!

He has a valid licence, and can drive legally (unless he’s reached 70 y-o-a). It’s only the photo that has expired. However, the guys at the hire depot may not understand that,

They need sight of the licence .

If it was sent away with the renewal form then he has no proof of having a licence.

He states that his photo card licence has expired. I took that to mean that his driving licence has expired?

The photo expires every ten years, unless restricted your licence and entitlement to drive lasts until you're 70.
  • Thanks all. My licence is still valid, it is just the photo that has expired. I've found out that Thrifty and Enterprise are happy to rent a car with a DVLA check code, passport and utility bill
