EasyJet imposes PCR tests for internal UK flights

A weekend tip-off came in to say that EasyJet is now demanding a 48-hour advance PCR test for double-vaxxed UK nationals to take internal flights e.g. London-Edinburgh. This was confirmed when I called them this morning. There is absolutely nothing on their website, even though the 'change' came in on 19th August. I would welcome any clarification from the forum as to how EJ can do this, especially when there is no such demand elsewhere in the internal UK travel industry.

Turning it round the other way, what would prevent them from doing this?  To the best of my knowledge, any travel provider can impose its own conditions of carriage, to the extent that they don't contravene any legislation or regulation....

Nothing on their website about this. Can you link to your source?

I would guess a domestic flight cost + 2 x PCRs would make them more expensive than airline competitors on the same routes that do not have that requirement.
An internet search on this brings nothing except this thread....possible that the person on the phone thought this was referring to an international journey to enter UK rather than a domestic flight. I would expect a change such as this to be on their website at a minimum and in the media

Who did you receive the ‘weekend tip-off’ from?

I would think this forum would have already heard from very disgruntled, refused travel,  EZY passengers on U.K. domestic flights if this indeed was the requirement and had been in operation since 19 August.
  • Thanks forum people for responding. My tip-off was a friend due to fly with EasyJet today. Both of us rang the EasyJet customer service line and had to give our booking references and flight numbers, which were both clearly within the UK. I stressed my flight was internal to the UK and the person flying was double vaxxed. If EasyJet's customer advisors have got this wrong then they need to be re-briefed immediately. I decided not to take the chance of arriving at the airport and being turned away, and have made alternative arrangements, fortunately at very little additional cost.

I flew with Easyjet Bristol-Edinburgh on 15th August, and returned yesterday 22nd August. No PCR test (or indeed lateral flow) was required
Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard
  • There's no way that thousands of people have been getting refused boarding on Easyjet flights all over the country for the last 4 days because they haven't had PCR's tests and nothing about it has been mentioned in the press or on travel forums by those refused boarding.

Unless their peers were following suit it would be commercial suicide.

The cost of the tests would be as much or more than the flights  :D

Well, yes, it wouldn't be a sensible move financially but I was addressing the issue of whether there was any legislative or regulatory imperative not to do this, in response to "I would welcome any clarification from the forum as to how EJ can do this"....
