Purchase Protection M&S credit card

I have had my M&S and more credit card since 2007.
When we took the card out I think that the card offered protection for accidental damage to goods purchased on the card for a couple of months.
So recently my wife dropped her watch and caused £310 worth of damage to it a week after purchase on the credit card. Commonly known as damaged beyond repair.
After a few days pondering I contacted M&S Credit Card services and submitted a claim.
Today M&S called and it was like talking to a brick wall. All they kept repeating was that the shop where the watch was bought would not replace under their terms and conditions.
Has anyone else ever used this purchase protection offered by M&S Credit in 2007? Any tips would be appreciated.

Are you sure they still offer purchase protection - I can't see any reference to it on their website? You say you "think" it was offered back in 2007 - it's quite possible that such protection is no longer offered. Have M&S confirmed whether this insurance is still available?

Insurance isn't perpetual. It may have been offered in 2007 or 2011 but do you have paperwork showing that it is still offered in 2021?0
