HSBC PPI & RSA

I've recently received a letter from HSBC explaining that due to an error in their process they did not contact Royal Sun Alliance regarding PPI.

They have asked the PPI Complaints Team to investigate my case and have sent me a detailed questionnaire to fill out that will help them to investigate.

The PPI was instigated in 1995 and I have little memory of the policy...all I know is that I would not have knowingly or willingly accepted PPI.

Has anyone else had any experience of this? I'm not sure whether sending a virtually empty questionnaire back will help or hinder my case.

I had the same letter today, like you I have no paperwork from 1995 so unsure how to reply when I don’t have any details I could add to the questionnaire.

Answer it as best you can. Don't guess or tell lies. Say where you cannot recall (you are not expected to have good recollection)

Its better than sending back a questionnaire answered with lies that they can easily refute from the limited information that they have.

As above, answer honestly but at the same time, don't be tempted to make stuff up. You say you wouldn't knowingly or willingly accept PPI, and yet it seems you had it and it was, and always will be, a claims company myth it could be added to your finance without you knowing about it or without you agreeing to take it out. It would be on all the paperwork you signed (though they may not have it of course). Any claims you make about your situation might well be required to be evidenced e.g. claiming you had work benefits to cover your payments etc you'd need to show that. Nothing wrong with saying what you remember or doing what research you can into your situation at the time before you return it.

Thanks @Deleted_User. I guess when I say knowingly...I mean that it was explained to me.

I'll fill it in as best I can and send it back.
