Macerator for Toilet

Options
Hi,

Don't know if anyone can help! We have just bought a house that needs renovating and want to put a toilet under the stairs (there is no plumbing)

Does anyone have any experience of Macerators?
I am lookng for one that will do both the toilet and hand basin.

There are two main makes around.

    Saniflow and Tecma

We have one Tecma Sanisplit 3 in our kitchen that does the dishwasher and the kitchen sink. We are about to fit another in the utility room to do washing machine, toilet, washand basin and utility room sink. We have worked out the worst case flow rates if all are used at the same time and compared this to that it should be able to shift at 8 ft underground and we are in the clear.

The Saniflow models use 22mm plumbing for the outlet, whereas the Tecma (who make the sanisplit) use 32 or 40mm plumbing.

What we liked about the Tecma sanisplit, as opposed to the Saniflow units is that the Tecma Sanisplit splits into 2 halves. One half stays in position the whole time whilst the other half, which incorporates the pump and motor can be removed by anyone for repair. If it breaks down you just remove it and send it back to Tecma who swap it for another unit for about £65 IIRC. We've never had a problem with ours but apparently they aim to have another bit to you within 24 hours.

With the Saniflow units the whole lot needs to be removed to effect repair, and you can imagine how messy that can be. :(

not quite some saniflo use 22m but most use larger bore, only use the 22mm unit when absolutely necessary. the other great make is the vortoplast unit, better and more robust than the saniflo with better support, have used these for some years with very few probs

Glad I saw this thread. We've been thinking of having a downstairs loo put in using one of these systems. Where we want to put it wouldn't be anywhere the plumbing we've got now for the upstairs loo so this seemed the best option.
Price worried me as I couldn't seem to find a local plumber who could even be bothered to give us a quote.
OH is no plumber of any sort let along doing this sort of thing. I'll print out the info if I may to show OH.
    Thanks

we had one in an upstairs on -suite - Saniflow - it sounded like a train going through the house every time someone used the loo or basin -especially in the middle of the night. Find out which is the quietest if you can.

The tecma units are quite quiet by comparison to Saniflow
