Ovo Energy Billing

Hi all,
the house I moved into had an Ovo set up along with a smart meter, etc and so far I'm trying to get to grips with their billing process as a new customer without accidentally becoming a late or non-payer.
I was first told to go online and pay whatever my balance is on the 16th, which i did but this morning i got a paper bill for an additional £5 and then on-line it shows to end of September this is £35.
When I was with British gas or Sainsbury, etc i got a bill online and paid it - end. But with this continuous billing method, it is mindboggling trying to determine what I actually owe at a point in time.

The more pertinent question first:  When you moved in did you tell Ovo you moved in and fed them some readings or did you just not do that?

AFAIK the billing process for Ovo is no different from anybody else - give them some readings on occasion and you get a bill for usage up to that point, usually monthly (tariff permitting)  Are you sure you're not looking at their projections/usage graph thing?
  • I don’t need to give readings as it’s a smart meter. Yes I told them I moved in.

But are OVO actually using them ?   Do the bills have the letter A against the meter reads ?   If it's E it means it has been estimated .

Just because it was Smart once it doesn't mean that it is now.

I would sit back and wait for OVO to email you a bill.

  • Thanks. They are actual readings. It updates live daily. It appears they want you to either prepay or go on direct debit.

OVO pay interest on credit balances up to £1000. It’s worth keeping your account in credit.
