Is there a max / cap on parking fines for Council-issued fines?

Hi there,
I got a parking fine today. In all honesty, I am as guilty as OJ Simpson here. But I was surprised to see that Cornwall Council is charging £70. (halved if you pay in 14days). This is more than the last one I had at £50 about 6months ago parking not far from where I parked today on a residential street - in the daytime on a single yellow line (same "offence").
Sure, private companies are capped to £50 but does the same not apply to Councils?
Seems a bit cheeky of them to not fine along the same lines...
I have until 2Sept2021 to appeal.
btw parking legitimately for the last 6months would've costed me a whopping £350+ so I am really getting off a bit light here tbh.
But was just curious about the double standard.
Looking fwd to replies!

You seem to have it wrong! Private parking firms use £100 as a max. But it's not clear whether you've had a private or council parking charge/penalty.Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

They are capped at £100 but nearly all of them ask for considerably more. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

Local Authorities outside of London operate two tiers, either £50 or £70 depending on the contravention.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
