Paint closeboard fence slats before it’s built?

There should be enough of an overlap to prevent fence paint getting through to t'other side once the fence is up.Painting it all - with at least one coat - beforehand will also mean that bare gaps won't appear as the timber shrinks - that's the most annoying. You know what! (I've just sketched it out...), you can slap on the paint on each face and edge with abandon and not worry about it going over the edges too much, 'cos that will be hidden by the overlap! Yippee! You can have a drink and paint!I think.1
