PIN change.

I used a Tesco Store cashpoint, this morning, only to change the PIN for my Tesco Credit Card.
Inserted the card and selected "PIN services". Then the only request was to enter new PIN, then enter new PIN, again. The original PIN was not needed. That can't be right? i.e. somebody steals your card, goes to cash machine, enters a new PIN for their fraudulent use!

You didn't key in your original PIN at any point?

No, it can't be right. Something amiss.

Well you must have entered the pin you were given to access the option of selecting "Pin Services" surely?

Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

I've never been asked to enter my current PIN when changing it - just the new PIN twice to confirm it. Presumably they verify you are the legitimate card holder when you first insert the card and enter your PIN before getting to the main menu.

Otherwise if the ATM is dodgy, they won't get very far by not asking for your current PIN at any point anyway...

Not when changing it, but when you entered the card into the machine? You must have?

You must enter your PIN before you can do anything else.

Yea, in my experience the ATMs ask for the current PIN when entering the card into the machine and that's the only time they ask for it.

The OP must have put the PIN in while on 'autopilot' without thinking about it

The options of what you want to do dont appear until after you've put your PIN in for Tesco (and most banks etc) ATM. Its only the fee charging 3rd party ATMs in convenience stores etc that tend to ask what you want to do first before then coming up about charges and asking for your PIN etc
