Hi all
I hope someone can help me with a strange issue..when I first switch on my PC it will not connect to the internet, but is fine once I restart it.
It has just started doing this and I am sure I have not changed any settings.
Any ideas what is at fault and how to fix please?
Thanks as always

When you say "switch on", do you mean when you wake it up from sleep mode?0

Happens all the time with the last 2 laptops I've had.ferry said:neilmcl said:When you say "switch on", do you mean when you wake it up from sleep mode?
No, when I actually turn on after being completely off overnight
Just right click on the wifi icon on the taskbar, click troubleshoot and then wifi. It'll reset the wifi adapter and it'll be fine after that, no need to reboot the system.

No need to run the troubleshooter, just left click the Wifi icon and turn the wifi off and on again.Jon_01 said:

You could also check the power management settings for the network adapter via the Device Manager.
Try deselecting the the first checkbox to see if that makes a difference.4 -
Thank you , but the issue seems to be with the Network adaptor on a PC wired to router, not the wifi which works fine:j1

Having similar problem but Power Management tab not on my Win 10 version. Google search suggests registry edit to display.neilmcl said:

Same here, no power tab. I'll keep using the troubleshoot, that works every time. . .WaywardDriver said:

Try this app (Reset and Renew Your Internet Connection Batch File 1.0 ), it worked for me: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/reset_and_renew_your_internet_connection.html

Don't think this is necessary for me anyway. On returning to my laptop to type this, the laptop was in sleep mode and I had to wait a few seconds for it to connect. Sometimes this doesn't happen automatically and I have to use the wi-fi icon on the taskbar to connect. So seems a power management issue.Laz123 said:Try this app (Reset and Renew Your Internet Connection Batch File 1.0 ), it worked for me: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/reset_and_renew_your_internet_connection.html
Looking at another laptop, the option not to set the wi-fi adapter to sleep, is in the power management options. So obviously varies from set-up to set-up although both my laptops have had the same Win10 upgrades, another annoying Windows feature.0 -
As much detail as possible is always helpful when diagnosing computer issues.ferry said:Thank you , but the issue seems to be with the Network adaptor on a PC wired to router, not the wifi which works fine
Next time you have the same problem, go into Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet and grab a copy of all the data on this screen. Don't show the MAC address.
