Going to struggle after operation

Hello, my husband had an operation on Friday. He has a sick note for 2 weeks and he had to isolate from having a covid test on the Tuesday before his operation. So he will have had nearly 3 weeks off work by the time he goes back.

He earns around £20k a year, however only gets SSP when off ill, there is no company sick pay. I’m not sure how we are going to manage for the next month…his reduced wage will hardly cover anything.

I work in a school, we have 3 children and receive some child tax credit. Is there anyway of receiving more tax credit during this period or are we stuck? We have no savings unfortunately.

Tax Credits are based on annual income from the previous year unless this year’s income is expected to be different by £2500 or more. Therefore your Tax Credits will not be changed because of a three week break.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

Try your local council, the one my way were handing out small grants to families in need, yours might be doing the same.

Check your local food banks, for food.

    Good luck

That’s strange as when I changed my
working hours by 2 hours a week my payments changed 🤔

That would be correct if there was a change of income of £2,500 or more. See link. https://revenuebenefits.org.uk/tax-credits/guidance/how-do-tax-credits-work/understanding-the-disregard/
With a change of income for a few weeks, this wouldn't change your tax credits payments. Do you have family that could help?
