Mystery hotels at cheap prices in UK?

I used to use Expedia's Super saver hotel where you only found out the name of the hotel once you'd booked but get a much better price. I saved lots of money that way and managed to stay in some really nice hotels as a result. They seem to have stopped this now but I wonder if there are any other websites that do this in the UK?

The problem is there are so many people staying in the UK this year that hotels generally do not need to discount, indeed they are charging over the odds. Laterooms used to be a reasonable site but having just looked at the prices for a city I know well, there don't seem to be any bargains there either

We found the opposite this summer.

Considering it was main school holidays we found hotels costs to be far lower than usual just booking direct.

One was only booked a few weeks before we needed it as ironically a hotel cancelled our booking as it was no longer going to be open in August due to low demand.
