A problem with my TV remote

My old remote control stopped working and I had to get a new one for my Samsung TV from Richer sounds

The problem with the new remote is that it will switch the TV on no problem but it takes ages to switch the TV off ,,,, what is the problem

I have started to switch the TV on and off at the wall socket is that ok or is it not good for the TV

OP, depends on the TV as to whether it may be a problem turning it off. Some models will update overnight when effectively in stand by mode if  connect to the internet. 
No idea why it takes so long to turn off - could be a feature to prevent you accidentally turning it off in the middle of your programme. Check the manual. Also, worth asking Richer Sounds. They are a pretty decent company and tend to have knowledgeable staff - could just be defective.

Just to say do not dispose of your old remote, often they just need dismantling and a good clean inside under the rubber buttons.  I have done this to lots of old Sky+ remotes and they all worked fine afterwards. Main difficulty is getting it open but YouTube helps.
