O/S Daily Wednesday 18 August 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light but cloudy, dry underfoot, showers forecast.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/salad. Not sure what we're having tonight but it's my short day today so have time later to organise.
Work not quite so manic, but the office politics is awful, staff that can are either leaving or actively looking to leave.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Dry but overcast this morning, yesterday turned into a beautiful day, I spent an hour or so in the garden when I got home dead heading and tidying up. The sweet peas have grown so tall they were falling over so they are tied up, picked another lovely bunch for the house, the smell is gorgeous. Cut the grass too so it all looks fairly tidy out there. The big pots have gone back to school so the front is looking a bit bare now but the hanging baskets are still full of life.
First day back for the children yesterday, can't believe so many were late, you would have thought the parents would have had them in on time after so many weeks off. Only one member of staff off who has Covid, she should be back tomorrow.
Tried for over an hour last night trying to get tickets for pumpkin picking but the site crashed it was so busy. You now need a password to get into the site but there's no password! Very frustrating.
Thinking of the poorlies and the missing, take care. XX14 -
Morning folks.Pumpkin picking sounds like messy fun Camelot!Today I should be mostly sorting out books for the CS. Needs must...
Happy Wednesday to all.16 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another day with that dratted wind blowing, I am getting more than jaded with it now. But at least it's fine and no rain forecast so that's something!
My coffee & lunch with DF yesterday never happened! Just as I was getting ready she texted to cancel as her DH wasn't well so she had rung the GP and was awaiting a call back.. So I tackled a couple more of the niggling little jobs I have been ignoring instead! Not quite as enjoyable as lunch out!
Today it's bus trip day but only two of us this time.. Don't know where we will end up but one thing's for sure, wine 'n dine lunch will be on the agenda as usual!. Highlight of the day.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. And welcome back TAFF we have missed you! Take care one and all and be safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -

Not quite as enjoyable as lunch out! That's such a shame TA - but at least you have today to look forward to.I'm more sorted than before. I was lying in bed thinking about my day and decided that it has to have a bit more in it. So...changed the bed linen and now got the washing machine whirring away. The forecast is for light showers but as it's really breezy outside the linen should dry nicely.Yesterday my dental appointment was brief - the hygeniest picked away and then did a short brush of my teeth and I was done. Following that I had a lovely brunch with Alan during which we planned our long-awaited trip down to Dumfries House for the tour of the interior. We had talked about it all during lockdown but it remained closed until really recently and will be closing again for the season shortly. Now we're booked for two weeks today.BT sent me a refund cheque for DM's services but it's made out to her. Grrr... all the letters have been addressed to me as the executor so why the cheque isn't is beyond me. Had a long chat with a very polite BT man in Stockport who took time to sort it out for me. Just another low level hassle which I have now let go of.Now to face the books, I need all my determination to get rid of them.Thoughts to our missing and poorlies. xx13 -
Good morning all, dull and dry here.
Yesterday I cooked a couple of spicy meals from my stock of Simply, we Cook boxes, doubled up on both so some for the freezer. We ate Keralan Chicken for Supper and have Lamb Keema Matar for tomorrow. A good part of the day was spent organising health stuff, delivery schedule for injectables, appointment for blood test and we now both have our flu jabs booked, not too much hassle, but quite a bit of waiting in call queues, if I hear "your call is important to us please hold" one more time I might scream LOL.
TA sorry that you did not get your trip out, better luck for today. Taff good to see you back again, nmlc thanks for the new thread,. Pumpkin picking sounds interesting Camelot, I love pumpkin soupt (a la Delia). Gers good luck with the books.
Have a good day all, hugs and spoons.

Morning all! Weather is sunny but still cool unlike where my cousin is which was 41 degrees yesterday. I know they say you get used to the heat and two friends who moved to Australia in their early fifties did [and now wear jumpers in mid summer here] but I dunno...Anyway...Did the general stuff yesterday, clean, wash, cook etc, today I have an appointment to possibly get rid of some stuff on my face, this is going to sound frivolous but I have a mole, or wart more like, sun damage and xanthelasma on my face and it's all in the same place which makes me look like the before in Nanny McPhee...I'm paying for it though, not getting it free so we'll see if it can be done, if not, just have to live with it...[I'd rather not though
] It's funny isn't it, the little things we focus on with our bodies..In my case, I think that the cancer and subsequent stuff knocked me for six and it's only now I'm starting to care about my appearance a bit more, hence the losing weight, buying new clothes, and the face stuff...
I brought an old dresser back with me, it looks hideous, original dark brown surface stain/paint paint, scratched all over, two handles missing..However, this is going to turn into a swan. I'm going to sand it and wax it and use it for myself, thus freeing up my current dresser for the OH and thus getting rid of one item of furniture that is currently being used and is not fit for purpose. Honest guv...Taking the mirror out of it's current frame to work on will be the worst thing I imagine. I've given myself a deadline to do this though, no leaving it fall by the wayside.Ruby, hope you managed to book your trip. And that work offer you something suitable. Gers, condolences on the loss of your aunt. When my last aunties died we felt more bereft than we had done because of the thought there was no one left who remembered my mother or father as a child or could tell us some family history. TA, hope today is good for you, enjoy your lunch out. snoozer, a swin, yoga and sauna? And she's wondering where esben gets it from? Only the sauna sounds relaxing to me, the rest sounds like too much hard workcsaina, what a ball ache....I wish people would do their jobs properly when they do them otherwise don't bother because a half-assed job is just not worth it. Hester, hope you get to move soon! Sorry for anyone I missed, reading all the posts has made my eyes go funny
Have a good day if you can folkses, internal sunshine to you all!

Morning all; dull and cloudy here this morning.
Yesterday was spent looking after 2 yr old DGS. His favourite thing is still playing ball and hiding behind the curtains, although we did spend time in the park on the swings and seesaw as well. DD has now lost a day's childcare but we're reluctant to offer another regular day as he tires us out! Luckily they both have enough A/L to see them through until the end of the year and then he'll be starting Pre School on that day.
Today I need to do some food shopping, ironing and generally catch up with the chores. Will start by stripping the bed, once vacated by DH!
A friend gave me a giant yellow courgette yesterday so we had half with our dinner last night and will cook the other half today. A few of our plums on the tree are starting to ripen but we don't have nearly as many this year. I've actually still got one portion of them in the freezer from last year so had better use them up pronto.
Camelot: we did pumpkin picking last October and it was great fun - so many to choose from. Think I'll be booking for this year too.
Dumpling - did you get out to the shops the other day?
Have a good Wednesday everyone.12 -
Morning all dog walked washing on but i think i will need to use the TD in the middle of August !!! . Morning, hhugs if you need one.
Yesterday was a busy day, we called at the wood yard and they replaced the missing slat by nicking one from another arch. On to the shopping centre. Saw DGD, she rang her Mum and told her we were going to call, we went into Tesco, picked up a new mat for the kitchen, reduced of course, I also spied out the phones, I have decided on the one I want and just have to give notice on my old one, which I will do this week. We also picked up new diaries for next year, antihistimine tablets and two new bedside lamps. I am not keen on them so I think they will go back. On then to DD1 for a cuppa and a chat, GGS was there, DD1 has a new dog, a cockapoo although to me he looks more like a spaniel he is called Woody. 13 weeks old and very active!!
On to the technician.....DB has his dentures, I came away without mt bridge, despite several adjustments it just did not fit, so he is making a new one, another impression made. It is very unusual for A to get it wrong, he thinks that one of my teeth has moved round slightly.....so I have to wait and the cash for the plates stays in my bank.
Just before 9pm DB drew our sitting room curtains and said there was a light on in my neighbours, sure enough the car was pulled up in front of the house. I nipped over and took the keys back. Personally I think they have let her out too soon, time will tell, I am going over shortly to see if she is ok this morning and take her a couple of ding dinners for the next couple of days.
So we are off for coffee at the little chapel this morning, good to meet up with people and catch up with the news.
Supper tonight, beef casserole and veggies.9 -
Morning everyone
Sunny here this morning but quite windy too - my washing won't take long to dry. I'll have another load once I clean the bathroom.
Took little one to the library yesterday and then to the park. All the equipment had dried in the sun, but the earlier rain had kept people away so it was lovely and quiet. She had lots of turns on the trampoline so she was very happy.
At one point there were two little boys there, both with lovely long blonde curls, just like little one's hair. She was wanting on the trampoline where one of them was bouncing. I said to wait till the little boy was finished. In a very loud voice she says ' granny that's not a boy, is a girl!' The boy answers 'I'm not a girl I'm a boy.'
Little one 'me thinks you is a girl!'
I explained to the boy and his mum, who had now come over, that I didn't think she had ever seen boys with long hair.....
I ended up having a nice chat to the mum - they were here on holiday - little one talked about 'boy with long hair like me' all day afterwards.
I have the morning to myself today - I may get my suitcase out ready and start sorting some bits. Little one will come later as DD has a hospital appointment in Newcastle. She was coughing a lot last night so DD took her over to the local hospital - she has antibiotics for yet another chest infection....so we'll just have a day at home.
Camelot a farm not far from us did pumpkin picking last year and it proved so popular that it had to close early as all the pumpkins had been picked. We ended up missing it so will have to try to take little one this year.
Well I'm going to move or I'll waste my morning - hope everyone has a good day12
