credit card/Store card closure

Hi, I would like to find out if I was to close any store cards/credit cards, and later on try to open an account which is by the same company/provider e.g Ge capital, are they more likely to refuse me credit? Or affect my credit score if I do close?
Thanking you ahead for any answers received,
Lisa

  • Sorry, I don't have an answer, but would be very interested to know if anyone has any knowledge on this?
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!
  • I have had 2 Topshop cards, within a year of eachother, although the second was at my new address, the second application went through fine.
Also had a river island one once my topshop ones and dorothy perkins had been closed, all are run by GE money.

Don't have any currently though as the offers they sent me weren't worth the high APR's I would be charged (I know I could pay the balance in full every month but never did)

Providing you are/were a good/average customer and your credit status hasn't changed drastically there is no reason why you wouldn't get another card. Closing cards reduces your available credit, therefore in theory improves your credit status.

However most cards will stipulate a 'break' period of anything between 3-12 months where you cannot reapply. This is stop card holders from closing accounts and then re-opening them just to take advantage of offers for NEW customers only.
  • ahh, Thank you guys x
