Warranty on Air-Source Heat Pump: can I claim labour costs back?

Anyone with experience of a similar situation, I'd appreciate your thoughts....

I had an Air-Source Heat Pump (ASHP) installed a while back, and - to cut a long story short - it didn't work very well.  The manufacturers replaced it within the warranty period, BUT...

the pump's problems had been intermittent and inconsistent, and even after my local heating engineer had reported the problem to the manufacturer, it took several visits for them to diagnose and determine that the problem was unfixable.

I kind of assumed that the supplier would be liable for the costs of my local heating engineer, but they're saying 'Nope; diagnostic costs are not covered under warranty.'   Thoughts, anyone?

Manufacturer warranty is purely under the terms of that warranty.  Your consumer rights on the other hand are against the supplier and / or installer of the system.  Who did you buy the system from ? And how long is "a while back" ?

Thanks, @molerat.  The supplier is Mitsubishi, and the unit was new two years ago. To be honest, I'm not really sure who my formal contract is with (the relationship between installer/supplier seems pretty incestuous) but I can certainly check.

Your point about warranty vs conttract is a good one, and I can certainly explore that angle further.
  • I have a Worcester Bosch boiler that needed a warranty repair. My warranty is with the boiler manufacturer. I rang Worcester Bosch and they sent out an engineer who fixed the problem at no cost to me. The Worcester Bosch installer wasn’t involved. Are ASHP warranties any different?

I've now checked and my contract is not actually with the manufacturer, but with the installer (who invoiced me for the diagnosis work) so I'll change tack and talk to them.   Great advice - thanks.
