Seventh Anniversary First Post Combo Breaker

The New Zealand border is currently closed to almost all arrivals, the government has made statements that they will not open until everyone in NZ is vaccinated and estimated to be complete by end of Q1 22 (i.e. March 2022) and is dependent on continued supply of vaccines.  They have just announced the entire country will be going into lockdown for 3 days due to a single case being discovered (7 days for the area where discovered which includes the whole of Auckland).

I have a holiday booked in Feb/Mar 2022 (moved from Feb/Mar 2021) and paid a 4-figure deposit.  I cannot see this going ahead and want my deposit money back now.  What rights to I have to get this refunded?

Unless your agent/airline offers otherwise you will have zero right to your deposit back up and until the holiday is cancelled. If you booked flights only (eg. not a package) and the flights go ahead you will not be entitled to anything regardless of if you are denied entry or not. If you do not pay the balance as required you forfeit the deposit. If the flights are cancelled on a flight only booking, or if the holiday is cancelled on a package then you are entitled to a full refund, if, and I stress if, you have kept to the payment schedule, rather than cancelling by nature of non-payment.

Another one who did not do their research before booking and wants his money back now.

Assume he has not booked with BA or he would only have paid a minimal deposit with the balance due three weeks before travel.

Originally booked to travel 2021  and  was moved to 2022, so your comment about research is not relevant.
