Covid-19 testing for return to UK from Portugal

Double jabbed and so it looks like there is no requirement to test before travel (providing I 'show my papers') and a requirement to test on day 2 upon return to UK - does this sound correct? Has anyone simply used the NHS testing hubs as opposed to the extortionate private test providers?

I think you need to read this link. You still need a test prior to departure as well as 2 day test. NHS tests cannot be used.
Red, amber and green list rules for entering England - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Edit: I read it that you are already there but if not and you are travelling from the UK you will need a test before travelling unless you have the EU (not NHS) vaccine app.Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.0 -
No, not there yet.NSG666 said:I think you need to read this link. You still need a test prior to departure as well as 2 day test. NHS tests cannot be used.

I read it elsewhere as just proof of vaccination so assumed showing this on the NHS app would suffice upon leaving England - is that not the case?
On second glance, it looks like a pcr or antigen test is required to leave for Portugal. Does this include the free ones that can be obtained from the nhs or is this another little cash cow and they have to be purchased from a gov approved source?0 -
No. I find it better to check the gov.uk website for the latest travel advice and I signed up for email alerts on Portugal as we want to go and look at property.adonis10 said:

As well as the link I gave you earlier use this to see what the entry requirements are for Portugal. The NHS app can be used to prove vaccination status and avoid quarantine but not to avoid the need for a pre departure (from UK) test

What is sometimes difficult to get you head around (not saying this is your case) is that Portugal set the entry requirements for Portugal not the UK gov. England set the entry requirements for England. It's just that sometimes when you read it on the UK web-site it's easy to think all the rules have been set by the UK gov.Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.2 -
So we would need to take a pre departure test in the UK, a pre departure test in Portugal and a day 2 test when back in the uk? If so, we certainly won’t be going.NSG666 said:

This is the sort of test we need for pre departure? https://www.c19testing.co.uk/rapidtravel/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIu7HRu_C38gIV04BQBh3SjAbhEAAYASAAEgJaG_D_BwE0 -
Yes 3 tests still required in total but in fairness we're not bothering until that changes so not really looked into testing recently. The Tripadvisor forum is good for finding out where to get tests in Portugal and it seems that over there they can be had for as little as 20euro but we can't be bothered with the hassle. Also there's always the problem that the test in Portugal could be positive and you end up having to go into quarantine over there.adonis10 said:

Cool, thanks. I’ll be knocking this idea on the head then as it was only for a 5 day break so hardly seems worth it.NSG666 said:

And presumably if test positive before leaving Portugal one would not be able to fly back to the uk?0
-
Yes If you test positive for COVID-19 in Portugal you will have to self-isolate there for 10 days. If you continue to test positive, you may not be able to get a fitness-to-fly certificate. You may also need to seek treatment so would need insurance to cover the extended stay and new flights home.adonis10 said:And presumably if test positive before leaving Portugal one would not be able to fly back to the uk?
