I do believe that you should contribute to the household as you are using utilities and the council tax etc as for when your parents get older you should look after them if you want too, if they choose to pay you and you accept then that's up to you.StandingInTheSun said:

After all such services are not routinely free!
Having been in the situation of looking after a terminal older relative, I stayed with them rent free as I provided 24 around the clock care.
My time spent with them was a small price to pay to ensure they could remain at home as long as they did.0
