O/S Daily Tuesday 17 August 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light but cloudy, dry underfoot, sun shine and showers forecast.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner was chicken in white wine sauce, new potatoes, tenderstem broc and green beans. Tonight we'll be having gammon, egg, chips//jacket potato/salad.
Work as expected was manic but did have a few times when it was calmer.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
It's a bit grey out this morning, there's been rain overnight. Glad it's not gloriously sunny for the first day back for the children.
Work yesterday was quite manic at times with the teachers trying to get organised, it wasn't helped by some new enrolmenets but we'll get there.
Called to see the little one on my way home then to the allotment followed by the library, our nearest library is closed for refurbishment (again) so have to drive to another that doesn't seem to have as much choice. Still, it's a service I'm keen to support.
Glad you had a great catch up with your family Ruby, what a lovely thought. Bet you could all have talked for days after so long not seeing each other.
Sounds like you're slowly getting there Gers.
Fantastic dumpling!
Right, off to the shower for me. Have a happy Tuesday. Take care. XX13 -
son eventually called in late afternoon having been unexpectantly been called into work. Like everyone in hospitality they are desperately short of staff. The garden jobs have bee rearranged for when he is next free. He brought my little grandson with him and I taught him the card game clock patience. Talk about beginners luck. Out first time he played so he was very happy!
I have postponed my friends visit today as I have still have a lot of pain so I am going to have a quiet day.

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I am usually up with the lark but this morning I didn't want to stir. It was only because of a very vocal cat wanting her breakfast that I dragged myself out of bed.
It looks as though there has been some light rain in the night but now brightening up. But that dratted wind is still blowing away out there. Yesterday would have been a lovely day if not for that ever present wind.
It's my usual Tuesday coffee and lunch meet up with oldest buddy this morning but it's not looking as though it will be an outdoor rendezvous unless we want blowing away. So back to sitting inside again which somehow isn't the same. I live in hope, maybe the wind will drop!!
I actually tackled some of the niggling little jobs yesterday that have been on hold on forever. And I also made a start on emptying cupboards etc in readiness for the plumber next week. I got my steps and emptied the top half of the airing cupboard with no clue what was in half the bags up there. Fortunately I had the foresight to stick labels on them so didn't need to open them all. But why on earth I have kept most of that stuff I have no idea! Most of it won't be going back. Just the towels to sift through and then it's all empty. I somehow don't think I shall be needing all the beach towels again so they can go to a cs..
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and the MIA. DUMPLING well done you on getting out. Onwards and upwards. Take care one and all and be safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Hi everyone,
We had a lot of fun with the wee man yesterday. We took him to a small wildlife park in the morning and then in the afternoon took Ziggy for a walk. Esben grabbed hold of a nettle but didn't cry, just looked at his hand very puzzled. We took him back to Laura and Brian after getting him ready for bed so they had a good stretch without him. Laura had managed a swim, a sauna and some yoga practice. It was the first time since Esben's birth that she'd had a day to herself without working or doing house things so I was really pleased.
Anyway, after having been run around yesterday I am going to have a quiet day, Steve is playing golf in the rain this morning and I am going to potter around and maybe do a bit of sewing.
Dumpling, I hope you made it to the shopping centre,
Gers, my condolences on the death of your Aunt.

Good morning all, have caught up a little after virtually no internet for a week, most frustrating. Since Covid the caravan/camping sites no longer carry local tourist information and without internet it is difficult finding directions, opening hours etc. Main highlight was visiting the National Memorial Arboretum, need to arrange a longer visit without DDog as it would be too much for her, we then visited OH's lovely Aunt who is now 89, but well and active - looks after her own home, shopping etc, just a little help in the garden, was lovely to see her.
Masses of washing to do and clothes to sort for the funeral on Friday, need to check weather forecast, I shall be a bit stumped if it is wet, I do not own a smart light weight coat or mac, all gone to the CS when I lost weight from being poorly.
Gers so sorry to read of you aunt in Germany, condolences and hugs from me.
Dumpling well done on your trips out.
TA I hope you can find a sheltered spot for lunch.
Poppy so sorry that the pain is so bad, well done your GS
nmlc many thanks for the thread, hope work is kind to you today. Camelot same applies to you too.
Really dull and grey outside, must check the forecast re the washing mountain and get going with breakfast and my to do list for today.
Take care, hugs and spoons to all that need them. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)13 -
Good morning all, it's absolutely chucking it down here, me and DDog wet through, so it's a day of staying in and catching up with jobs. My friend and I had a lovely lunch out yesterday. It's very popular so you have to book a slot online for 1 1/2 hours. We did go over slightly but left when people started coming in for afternoon tea, that looked very nice. They also asked for feedback on the cakes as they had a new lady making them, my friend said absolutely delicious!Snoozer sounds like you had a busy day.Poppy I hope you can get some relief from your pain- hugs. Not sure what is for tea - I need to sort the fridge out a bit after the delivery yesterday- I just bunged it all in as I had to get ready to go out.Take care all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning, hugs if you need one.
Its a grey wet morning here, glad its this week and not last Tuesday.
We are off on a semi jolly this morning, I want to go to the big Tesco on the outskirts of Leicester, we will have a sandwich there and then we have to go and collect our new dentures, in DB's case and plate for me. DB will no longer look as if he has a mouth full of tombstones!! He was really done over by the dentist last year, the technician looked at his plate and told him that it has been relined, it was the wrong plate in the first place, instead of making a new one they just re-lined it. AS long as I have breath he will never get another denture from the dentist.
I managed to do another set of blocks for a quilt, I am going to have to cut more to finish it off.......running short of one fabric, fingers crossed I have enough.
Ding supper tonight, I am cooking some casserole steak, we will have it tomorrow, it always tastes better if its left for the flavour to develop.

Good morning everyone
I've been slightly distracted over breakfast. Little one enjoyed one library book in particular - 'Whatever Next' - about a bear flying to the moon in a cardboard box. So I found it on Ebay to buy for her - somehow another 3 books I think she'll like ended up in my basket too! Still, 4 books for £12 is a bargain.
I had planned to take her to the library then the park this morning, but it's been raining in the night so I'll see if it brightens up. I could always take her waterproof suit.
I had a nice chat with my friend over coffee yesterday morning and a lovely slice of carrot cake. The sun came out in the afternoon so I had a lovely read outside. Nice chat with eldest DD too.
Well I'd better get on as little one will be arriving soon and I've done nothing!
Hope everyone has a good day

Morning folks.Yesterday the gardener caught me on the hop, I hadn’t realised it was Monday. 😀 She cleared out all the horrible brambles which were choking the lovely honeysuckle bush and managed to fill seven green bags. I took these to the tip and emptied them into the big garden waste skip. The rest of my day was spent in a sort of idle busy fashion. I cleared the decks of lots of old paperwork and got it burnt in the chimera. Then I had a surge of energy and cut the grass, it wasn’t too wet so only took me 15 minutes. My new lawnmower was so easy to use, it was almost a pleasure. This morning I was up very early and in the car heading for Glasgow. I’ve got a dental hygienist appointment which I tried to re-arrange but the next one was in October. 😱 I’ve already been to the PO and handed in a return order at Marks. Now I’m too early for my appointment. After my teeth have been thoroughly cleaned I’m meeting Alan for some brunch, it’ll be good to see him again. I want to start off for home in quick time. My cleaner will have been and, hopefully, turned my mattress so I’ll need to make up the bed. I only stripped it before leaving and stuffed the linen in the machine. Thanks for the condolences ❤️Dumpling …brilliant!Happy Tuesday to all.10

Morning sheepies
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
It's raining here so a day for staying in I think, hopefully the rain will keep the skanks away. They sit on a bench by the local dealer with their cans of Special Brew and bottles of White Lightning smoking weed which gives me a headache. Hopefully Steve's prescription will turn up on Thursday afternoon and then we will move on.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.7
