Number plate stickers in Europe GB or UK

I am aware that for driving my own car in the EU now I must change the "EU" sticker. Most information says a GB sticker is needed, but also that the British Government is going to change that to "UK" at the end of September. Since I will be driving to France in early September, will it be legal IN FRANCE if put a "UK" sticker on the plate now? Or do I have to put a GB sticker on now, and then a UK one after the end of September?

Given the stickers are about £2 per pair, I'd just buy a set of each and change them on the 28th. You've only 'wasted' max £2Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.0

Thanks, I was going to do that but just wanted to ask if anyone knew the answer to yet another complication foisted on us by the clowns in office!1

I'd buy a magnetic GB sticker for the back of the car to use in France, removed once you return to the UK.
My car has 'Euro' plates (transferred from an old car on private plate), and as far as I'm aware, these will not be valid for EU travel now, despite the EU flag being borrowed from the Council of Europe and the UK remaining in said CoE.💙💛 💔0 -
Don't over-think this
How many people ever got stopped for lack of a GB number plate?
I changed my car and visited the mainland for a couple of years before even noticing that my new motor didn't have a national ID decal on the reg plate.
Just like no-one ever got busted for not having one of those waste of time breathalyzer kits (does anyone recall them...? Mine's rotting in a corner of the boot now, 10+ years out of date!)

I've just bought a new car and the number plate has UK on it so it must be valid now.

It's hard to tell what will be enforced and what wont. The ferry companies, holiday companies and travel information all promote the need to buy lots of stuff.
We've always been careful about warning triangles, spare bulbs, hi-viz vests and previously about altering headlights. We've never bothered with a breathalyzer and haven't had a GB sticker for many years.
It is very possible that someone somewhere has been stopped for minor infractions, but in 15+ trips to France our only interaction with the police has been to report a lost bag. You pay your money and make your choice as the saying goes......0
