not enough information. Were they married? Was it a final salary pension or a DC pension? Had the partner named her on the expression of wishes form?I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

There are a number of factors that would need to be considered but the most important thing is it depends on that pension's rules. The only way to know for certain is to contact the bereavement team of the pension administrator to report the death and see what they say.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. By named on police do you mean that it was a police pension? Those are normally defined benefit (DB) using final salary or in the most modern version average salary. In addition there can be an investment-based part.
For the Police scheme the oldest scheme from 1987 has potentially different benefits for a spouse or legal couple relationship than for unmarried common law types of relationship. The 2006 version seems to reduce those differences. If there are dependent children they may get something. The base case is half of the pension that the police officer would get, assuming the officer has already left the service.
Assuming that they were married she should end up in reasonable shape.0 -
I think the OP meant policy, not police.

Entirely possible, even quite likely, in which case we don't yet know enough about the policy to say much.0
